Vaastu Shastra, an ancient Indian concept, connects life force with the shaping of the environment. It reflects deep respect for the countless deities believed to exist before human civilization and a pursuit of finding one’s rightful place within the natural world. Inspired by this wisdom, a new school is being conceived—not as a religious institution, but as a scientific and educational endeavor that transcends religious boundaries. Since much of nature has been damaged by human activity, restoration must come first. Guided by Vaastu Shastra, the building’s location is chosen carefully, aiming to revive underground water systems and respect the natural flow of wind and landforms. The landscape is shaped to naturally collect rainwater and gradually return it to the earth, creating water bodies that nurture rich ecosystems. All learning spaces are connected by bridges, allowing learners to experience and engage with nature as part of their daily life. Children will witness where life grows and how it nourishes them, developing a daily awareness of being part of nature. Here, education goes beyond imparting knowledge—it fosters wisdom and a deep appreciation for life itself. To achieve this, the conventional structure of school buildings—and education itself—must be reimagined. Traditionally, classrooms were designed as spaces for delivering knowledge in a one-way, linear manner, with class sizes tailored to the capacity of a single teacher. Today, this flow is changing. The teacher's role is evolving toward cultivating wisdom—teaching students how to apply knowledge meaningfully through sharing, empathy, and social connection. Without these, knowledge alone is empty. The central building, called the “Mothership,” embodies this new vision. Like a living organism, clusters of five classrooms form one colony, maximizing the efficient use of space through transformable, multi-functional areas. Existing trees are preserved, shaping the form of the Mothership and creating natural courtyards that enhance lighting, ventilation, and outdoor activity. Instead of rigid, point-to-point corridors, a thick belt of open spaces encourages children to move freely and instinctively. Semi-open circulation spaces extend the classrooms outward, providing flexible zones for hands-on learning and creative exploration in a more natural environment. This is the birthplace of a new form of education—one that transcends knowledge, cultivates wisdom, and deepens an appreciation for life.
