Placement & Form: Situated in the suburbs of Ahmedabad, this ultra-luxury residence is a seamless extension to an existing villa designed for the same. Placed adjacent to expansive orchards and a striking Shiva sculpture, the location was meticulously chosen to ensure that these serene, symbolic elements become the visual anchors of the home. Majority of the rooms has been strategically oriented to embrace these views, offering a continuous dialogue between built form and landscape. Massing & Spatial Planning: Spatial organization is defined by a clear segregation between public and private zones, carving in a horseshoe-shaped layout that cradles an open courtyard. This central courtyard becomes the heart of the residence—an inward-looking focal space that frames daily life while ensuring a sense of intimacy and openness. The courtyard serves as a sacred and symbolic anchor—bringing light, air, and a sense of spiritual grounding to the entire residence. Vrinda refers to Tulsi (Holy Basil), and the house is named Vrindavan in reference to this central courtyard, a green space that draws inspiration from traditional Indian housing typologies. This Vrindavan acts like a brain of the Villa. Roof Design: The roof is conceived as a sculptural entity—both performative and poetic. Inspired by the organic, flowing form of the existing villa’s roof it transforms along the building’s perimeter. At the entrance, it rises to form a welcoming canopy, while in areas of intense sunlight, it gently droops, creating a shade and protecting interior spaces from excessive heat gain. Selective roof cut-outs over corridors and transitional spaces allow shafts of natural light to animate the interiors, bringing a changing quality of light and enhancing spatial experience throughout the day. Materiality and Facade Expression: Solid, semi-transparent, and clear. Each skin responds to the functional requirement of the space it encloses—offering privacy, filtered light, or openness as needed. This layered approach lends the elevation a dynamic, textural richness and reflects the rhythms of daily life inside. Local materials like Chittar stone (locally available in the neighbouring state) and terracotta finish have been employed not only for their tactile and aesthetic quality but also for their climate-responsive performance. These materials root the residence firmly in its geographic and cultural context while delivering a sense of understated luxury.
