Meditation Duplex

Urban life are hectic, there is always desire to seek tranquility on physical and spiritual levels especially in our living spaces. “Meditation” refers to contemplation or Zen spirit, recently are more popular and often combined with yoga or exercises to achieve healing of cleansing distractions, but it needs an area of open space for stretching in our flat. In the compact living space like Hong Kong, is it possible to integrate the scenario of meditation or activities like group gathering when necessary? Could we achieve an adaptive free area in this kind of urban compact apartments? Micro units becomes increasingly popular, often featuring open kitchens, high ceilings and maximising the number of rooms due to the real estate developer’s profit driven strategy. However, the living room or bedrooms tends to be narrow and difficult in use. By thinking with vertical articulation, could we make better use of the original high ceilings to create more spacious living and resting areas while ensuring privacy? Could we demonstrate a micro design prototype solution which helps to tackle a macro social issue? [1] Foldable Electric Staircase & Detachable Platform Composes Adaptable Living & Meditation Space The clients are a young couple of yoga enthusiasts. With the concept of “Meditation Duplex”, We explores the integration of meditation spaces within compact urban living. The project utilises a transformable electric staircase and a detachable, expandable platform to create a adaptable living & meditation scenarios: “living scenario” the staircase is open, allowing a direct vertical circulation; “meditation scenario” the staircase is closed, providing a open space on the lower level for meditation yoga or entertaining friends, while the upper becomes absolutely private area. [2] Integration Of Sustainable Smart Home & Green Planting The busy work life can be troubling, and remote control management with smart technology not only reduces the burden of managing the home but also promotes environmental friendliness and energy conservation. Additionally, the use of old wood planting, environmentally friendly materials, and natural ventilation creates a green touch in the home. The construction of the platform is also detachable and expandable, so if there is a need to move in the future, it can be easily restored without waste. After disassembling the platform, it can be moved to other locations for recycling, improving sustainability while enhancing life. [3] Serene Atmosphere With High Capacity Storage & Diverse Functionalities In an open layout, inadequate storage space can easily lead to a cluttered appearance. Therefore, in this project, careful consideration was given to storage capacity: the ceiling above the entrance had numerous ducts in the existing site, which were covered with white wood and cherry wood ceilings for storage purposes. In this project, with high-capacity storage and diverse functionalities, the opening and closing of transformable electric staircase, detachable and expandable platform create a sustainable and spiritually soulful healing duplex space that integrates and accommodates various elements such as interchanging scenarios, floating space, smart living, green planting, environmentally friendly materials, natural ventilation, and platform reusability.
