It forms part of a street block in Barcelona’s Eixample, also the site of the CNMC building designed by our practice some years ago on the remains of the old Fàbrica Pons factory. The hotel, which occupies the characteristic chamfered corner site and an entire edge of the street block, is listed as a 4-star superior establishment. It has three basement floors, with parking space, machine rooms and storage space accommodated on basements 3 and 2, and basement one houses various lounges, meeting rooms and a large dining room. Several landscaped courtyards provide daylight and ventilation for these spaces. Pedestrian access is at ground-floor level on the chamfered corner, through a porch which also provides sheltered access for vehicles. The space surrounding the building at the rear overlooks the Fàbrica Pons complex in the form of the terrace of the ground-floor bar, as well as creating a space that is integrated with the other free spaces in the city block. The other floors are occupied by hotel rooms. The eighth floor, where the suites are situated, generates a large terrace around the edge. The roof floor accommodates the swimming pool, sun deck, gymnasium, and bar/terrace area with great views of the city. The building’s four façades are given a uniform treatment in the form of large, vertically arranged windows set in textured microcement panels. Each window has a partition positioned at one side to give the room privacy. This element is lit up at night to give the building its characteristic image that sets it apart from its immediate surroundings. The compact formalisation of the building changes on the ground floor, where it shows off its structure in the form of triangular pilasters.
