Shenzhen Qianhai Education Complex

This project is part of the Shenzhen Metro Qianhai Depot Project, located in the newly developing Guiwan area of Qianhai. Within the 259,504 m2 site area, the kindergarten occupies 4000 m2 land next to a purposed 300m sports field, above the already built +16m depot area, whilst the 20,000 m2 primary cum secondary school located to the south sitting on ±0m, is connected by a link bridge to the sports field sit on +16m. Integration and Connectivity Situated in a metro development site, the project interplays an existing metro depot with a 16m floor height to propose an education complex that houses a kindergarten, a primary cum a secondary school, and a 300m sports field. The four interdependent programs are combined to economize means and to maximize the potential for “sharing”. The kindergarten and sports field spectator stand are integrated under a “one roof” feature on +16m, whereby an elevated link bridge connects the sports field to the +16m lobby of the primary cum secondary school. Articulated in section to afford multi-levelled green platforms, the school connects seamlessly to its entrance plaza on ±0m. Shenzhen Metro Kindergarten The kindergarten is designed to accommodate 12 classes of childhood education to serve the forthcoming residential population nearby. The kindergarten encourages interaction, innovation and creativeness, the design is more than creating a place of learning. Generous common spaces such as double volume reception lobby, gallery and outdoor decks are integrated into teaching and administration blocks. These serve as excellent platforms to enhance communication between school, children and their families, and hence helps to develop children’s social skill and encourage proactive participation. Apart from spatial arrangement, the project reveals emphasis on sustainability considerations. Featured green roof system, undulated from the ground to shelter the main building block, contributes not only open green to the surrounding public, but also forms the edge of the L1 garden and L3 covered playground of the kindergarten. In return, the kindergarten conveys an interactive and environmental friendly atmosphere, which adds up to an ideal environment for the development of early childhood. Shenzhen Qianhai Harbour School The design approach is to form a seamless connection between surrounding development (+16m) and the school (+0m) via a series of green platforms. Underneath are the sports hall, canteen and auditorium. Above, blocks of standard classrooms and labs line on the 3 sides of the perimeters, forming a courtyard where shared spaces for art / music / multimedia / library as a series of ‘boxes’ and ‘open spaces’ are located. The design encourages open learning, interaction and sharing. Overall theme is a ‘green learning environment closer to nature’ reflected in the use of building facades, materials, planting and open spaces.
