The Exhibition pavilion for our annual design showcase is placed on the lawns of our office campus. It is an example of our ideology - making nature an integral part of everything we design. This pavilion is a temporary structure; it is a lightweight metal frame work with an outer envelope of plants. The idea behind the form developed as an outcome of limitation of the location, a large linear open space adjacent to the lawn, where the structure could not impose the surroundings. Therefore, a fluid form was developed that rises from the ground, a single helical plane that makes the pavilion blend into the grassy lawns and not appear to be separate. The semi-covered spaces interspersed with open to sky spaces allow plants and trees to be a part of the pavilion and bring in natural light and ventilation. Each team working within our organization, such as structural department, service design, Landscape and Horticulture, Metal and fabrication works, fenestration and furniture, masonry and flooring, etc, display their work on panels mounted within the semi-covered zones and the grassy patches in between not only serve as dividers but as discussion spaces. The single plane fluid form encourages people to move through the linear space. Most importantly, the helical form is stable as it is placed on the ground with minimal anchoring, making it easy to assemble the large column free areas. The outer envelope of creepers and plants in seedling trays is lightweight and bound onto the metal framework.
