Villa 153

Bangalore

Designed for a unique duo—a chef passionate about flavors and a perfume maker deeply connected to fragrances—this home presented a distinct challenge. The interiors were dark, fragmented, and lacked natural light, making the spaces feel disconnected. Our goal was to reimagine the layout, introducing openness while preserving warmth and intimacy. Since the kitchen and dining area formed the heart of their daily interactions, the spaces were reconfigured for seamless connectivity. The living area was oriented towards this hub, reinforcing the kitchen as a central gathering space. To enhance functionality, the kitchen, dining, utility, and even the servant quarters were reorganized, creating a harmonious flow. Material selection played a key role in defining the home's character. Teak and rattan were chosen for their warmth and tactile appeal, aligning with the clients’ aesthetic sensibilities. A defining feature of the design was the wire-cut detailing, which visually linked the entrance to the kitchen counter, subtly tying together different spaces. Given the couple’s extensive collection of vintage decor, an earthy theme was integrated, ensuring their treasured artifacts felt at home. The flooring, finished in a rich marble tone, added a touch of understated elegance. Their love for Indian classical paintings also influenced the spatial composition, guiding the placement of furniture and decor elements. The staircase, with wooden treads, provided a strong visual connection between the two floors. On the first level, the family room was designed for togetherness. As avid football fans, the clients wanted a comfortable space for viewing matches, so a custom TV unit became the focal point. L-shaped seating was introduced to encourage interaction, maximizing both comfort and natural light. The daughter’s bedroom posed a design challenge due to insufficient lighting. To address this, the window size was expanded, and a cozy deck seating area was added, allowing her to connect with nature. Meanwhile, the master bedroom was conceived as a simple yet intimate retreat. A four-poster bed—specifically requested by the clients—reinforced their deep-rooted appreciation for traditional design while maintaining a refined elegance. This project highlights the delicate balance required to achieve simplicity in architecture and interior design. Every detail was carefully considered—bringing in light while retaining warmth, integrating vintage collectibles without overwhelming the space, and ensuring a natural, effortless flow. Through meticulous planning and thoughtful execution, we transformed a once-dark and disjointed house into a bright, cohesive, and elegant home—one that truly reflects the personalities of those who live in it.
