TSH Campus Barcelona

It’s ‘Good Vibes Only’ at TSH Campus Barcelona, a new student-only property that enjoys a central location in the edgy and vibrant Marina district of Barcelona, Spain. TSH Campus Barcelona occupies an impressive four-tower building close to the city’s attractions like the Sagrada Familia and to the sun and surf at Barceloneta. Our task was to create a design for the property that creates a mix of TSH’s signature bold and playful style while paying homage to the Mediterranean through the use of local materials and a bold color palette. We also aimed to create space where work meets play; a home base for a diverse group of students that inspires creativity and connectivity while giving a ‘family-away-from-family’ vibe. Barcelona Campus (21,000 m2, 500 rooms) offers an array our signature vibrant and energetic communal spaces, open and closed seating areas, gaming zones, shared kitchens and a roof-top swimming pool. Quiet study rooms encourage connectivity and exchange while providing enough space for learning and development. The communal areas feature layered graphic Memphis-inspired styling and bold color-blocking set against an industrial backdrop of exposed brick walls and concrete columns. Brightly painted Mediterranean-style brickwork is used as a wall covering, adding a sense of depth and creating a local feel. Intimate and cozy private spaces have been created – without the use of walls - through the creative placement of modern furniture upholstered in bright, Mediterranean fabrics. Study rooms feature a modern take on the classic classroom chair, giving a sense of comfort and familiarity to study spaces. Nest lamps, a recurring TSH feature, are clustered and painted in a vibrant yellow to create a warm, chandelier effect. Bespoke neon and digital signage featuring playful ‘winks’ that make you laugh, think and reflect, adorn the walls. ‘Amateur Entry’ hangs over a doorway, and ‘Hello Sunshine’ shines above a reception desk. A defining element at TSH Campus Barcelona is the bold mural work adorning the property’s walls and elevators. Created by local Barcelona illustrator Jose Mendez and giving guests a glimpse into the city’s popular culture, the black and white graphic designs feature – in true Student Hotel style - fun and motivational ‘winks’ like “Good Vibes Only” and “It all Starts Here.” This new TSH Campus property serves as a cultural hub and a home for Barcelona’s student population, moving far beyond the often lonely and uninspiring traditional college dorm.
