As with IGA, major airports have several terminals and/or meeting rooms. According to Frommers, most airport terminals of the 1960s and 1970s were built-in concrete boxes later replaced by glass boxes in the 1990s and 2000s. However, airports have a high value of creating an impression and memories on arrival and departure. For this reason, it is important that the structure bears traces of its geography and culture. Accordingly, the VIP terminal has been evaluated as a souvenir of Istanbul. As an additional structure at IGA airport, for private jets and for scheduled flight passengers who want to receive VIP service, the VIP terminal is developed in an organic form inspired by a flower, symbolic of Istanbul, in response to a remarkable design demand in terms of function and aesthetics. Considered three main volumes, the international VIP Passenger Service Area (880m2), the domestic VIP Passenger Service Area (655m2), and the welcoming zone (1140m2), the roof of the circular masses of the structure is designed in the form of a parabola inspired by the petals of the "nazende", an endemic species unique to Istanbul. On the 2771 m2ground floor, check-in, offices, food and beverage, gaming, waiting and experience areas, duty-free and pop-up shops are placed . The 762m2 first floor, accommodate 4 suites, spa, café, terrace and common areas serving international flights. Again on the 1062 square meters mezzanine floor, 4 suites and an area of 300 square meters serve domestic lines. The basement floor area, which includes the kitchen, is 1273 m2, and the total area is optimized as 4980 m2. Composed as three flowers, the leaves touch the ground at outdoors. In the interior spaces, the stem touches the ground from the flower tray act as carriers. The interior of these organic columns has been enlivened with trees and plants. In harmony with the landscape, on the floor the marbling pattern called "Ebru" or "marble paper" is applied. Surface of the paraboloid roof system receives sunlight from the openings; as well as its organic aesthetics, evaluated as an environmental and sustainable gain, with refraction features against sharp sunlight, the roof system collects rainwater, and behaves as wind-break. In the structure, in which materials that are innovative and representative of Istanbul are used, the metal coating in the roof application provides a monolithic image on the inclined surface. Thanks to the transparent facades with heat-insulated glass carriers, interior-exterior integration, a view open to aircraft take-offs and landings and optimum daylight in the interior spaces are achieved. Outdoors, concrete floor surfaces obtained by adding natural –cube-stones, aggregates and color are preferred. Applications that allow uninterrupted surfaces that are resistant to weather and usage conditions are envisaged with wood-clad wall and ceiling panels in interiors. Cement-based terrazzo was preferred on the floors. The VIP terminal will facilitate the travel and transactions of the passengers who make frequent and long flights and sometimes use private jets, and will successfully host international scheduled or ad-hoc meetings with its prestigious infrastructure and aesthetics.
