Design & Structure

Hyperbolic ParaboloidRuled SurfaceParametric SurfaceDiagrid
Computational Process

The conceptual design took nine weeks using Rhino and Grasshopper scripts to evaluate variations in light and metrics. Thornton Tomasetti split the unconventional structure into two typical systems for cost efficiency.

Materiality

Described as 'Scandimerican,' interiors blend Scandinavian material sensibility (oak floors) with local New York textures and Stephen Glassman’s 'Flows Two Ways' sculpture.

Structural Innovation

The roof is a simple ruled surface perforated by unique, south-facing terraces. Structural calculations were iterated daily to coordinate with the complex courtyard foundations.
